Indonesia travel eSIMs,
compared properly.
Ten local and international options compared by network, local-number access, registration, high-speed data, hotspot use, activation and support.

The short answer
Indonesia is a case where a global travel eSIM may be simpler for a short visit. Telkomsel's ordinary eSIM rules currently distinguish residents with local identity or KITAS from short-stay tourists, while its tourist prepaid card is a practical physical fallback.
Use a global eSIM for installation before arrival, or plan a registered local tourist SIM pickup. Do not assume a short-stay tourist can buy every domestic eSIM online.
Imported-phone IMEI rules and local subscriber registration can affect long stays. A travel eSIM roaming profile does not itself register the phone as a domestic Indonesian device.
Prices are deliberately excluded because promotions move quickly. Product characteristics and official local guidance were checked on 24 August 2026; the linked checkout terms take precedence if they change.
Compare the same allowance, validity and named network across global providers.
Read fair-use and hotspot definitions before buying an unlimited-labelled plan.

These services are grouped by model, not ranked. Compare the final checkout for the same high-speed data, trip length, local-number need and hotspot behaviour.
| Provider | Model | Published plan shape | Number / calls | Hotspot | Useful for | Verify before paying |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Telkomsel eSIM for eligible residents↗ | Local operator or domestic prepaid route | A domestic Telkomsel eSIM sold online for eligible users, with current foreign-customer eligibility tied to KITAS. | An Indonesian number with the selected domestic SIMPATI or Halo service. | Check tethering, speed management and any fair-use limit on the exact plan before relying on it for laptop work. | Foreign residents who already have the required Indonesian stay permit. | Short-stay tourists should not assume they qualify. Check KITAS, device IMEI, identity and QR transfer rules. |
| Telkomsel Tourist Prepaid Card↗ | Local operator or domestic prepaid route | A passport and IMEI-registered tourist product that provides a local physical-SIM fallback when domestic eSIM eligibility is unavailable. | An Indonesian Telkomsel number with the current tourist data and voice allowance. | Check tethering, speed management and any fair-use limit on the exact plan before relying on it for laptop work. | Short-stay visitors who need a local number and direct Telkomsel service. | This may be a physical SIM rather than eSIM. Bring the booking confirmation, passport and phone IMEI to the official collection point. |
| Airalo↗ | Global eSIM marketplace and app | Indonesia-only packages may sit beside regional and global products. Fixed-data, validity and unlimited-labelled choices can have different technical terms. | Usually data-only. Treat any voice or SMS inclusion as a feature of the exact package, not the brand generally. | Confirm the sharing rule on the selected package. | Comparing country, regional and global choices in one account. | Open the network, activation policy, voice, SMS, speed and identity fields for the exact package before checkout. |
| Nomad↗ | Global app-based travel eSIM provider | The Indonesia page may publish fixed allowances and unlimited-labelled daily products. Partner networks and daily high-speed definitions can vary by plan. | Primarily mobile data rather than a domestic mobile number. | Check the chosen fixed or daily product and its current fair-use wording. | Comparing several allowances and, where disclosed, more than one partner network. | Confirm the high-speed amount, reduced speed, reset period, activation deadline and refund rule. |
| Saily↗ | Global reusable travel eSIM app | Country-specific and regional data packages are sold through one reusable profile. Check the current Indonesia page for allowance and validity. | Data-only unless the checkout expressly adds a separate number product. That would not normally be a local number. | Check the sharing rule, especially on an unlimited-labelled option. | App-based top-ups, usage controls and keeping one profile for later trips. | Confirm when validity starts and whether security add-ons or virtual location features affect the intended use. |
| Holafly↗ | Global duration-based travel eSIM provider | Unlimited-labelled Indonesia data may be sold by trip length, subject to fair-use and network-management wording. | Usually data-only. Internet calling does not create a domestic mobile number. | Sharing limits can be materially lower than phone-data limits. Check the country page before paying. | Heavy phone-data use when buying by number of days is easier than estimating a fixed allowance. | Read the fair-use, reduced-speed and hotspot clauses. Unlimited does not mean unlimited full-speed laptop use. |
| Jetpac↗ | Global reusable travel eSIM provider | Fixed-data and unlimited-labelled choices may be available for Indonesia; the selected product defines the daily high-speed amount. | Data-only; optional in-app calling does not provide a domestic SIM number. | The provider generally publishes tethering, but the selected package still controls. | Travellers who value explicit plan definitions and a reusable profile. | Check the activation window, current partner network, daily reset and the value of ancillary travel benefits separately. |
| Ubigi↗ | Global reusable data eSIM provider | One-off and recurring data choices may be available. The current Indonesia product page controls the network and allowance. | Data-only service. | Verify data sharing on the selected plan and device. | Repeat trips, app-based top-ups and comparing one-off service with a recurring bridge. | Recurring options may have a minimum period. Check cancellation, reinstallation and fair-use terms before subscribing. |
| GigSky↗ | Global travel eSIM provider | Fixed-data and unlimited-labelled products may be offered through a reusable app profile for Indonesia. | Data-only; standard mobile voice calls and SMS are not included. | Check hotspot support and any daily high-speed threshold on the chosen plan. | People who also need regional, global, cruise or inflight products within one service. | The local network can vary. Confirm the present partner network, daily allowance and renewal rule. |
| Orange Travel↗ | Operator-owned global travel eSIM service | Search for Indonesia in Orange Travel and compare the country product with any regional option. Packages can include data-only or voice-enabled service. | Varies by package. Confirm whether a number is included and which country issued it. | Check the exact destination plan and fair-use wording. | Travellers who prefer an established mobile-operator group and in-app management. | Orange Travel is separate from a domestic Orange subscription. Confirm the named network, number, validity and refund rule. |
Comparison note: a domestic operator eSIM and an international roaming eSIM can use the same radio network while providing different numbers, routing, priority, support, registration, reinstallation and fair-use terms.

The network underneath
A provider name is not coverage.
Telkomsel, Indosat and XL are the main national networks. Performance can change sharply between Jakarta, Bali, smaller islands, mountain areas and inter-island routes.
Test the actual neighbourhood, coworking space, road route and island rather than extrapolating from airport or central Bali signal.
Start with the provider's exact network field, then compare it with the current official sources below. A coverage map is a prediction and cannot guarantee signal inside a future home.
Scouting-trip use
Use data to investigate a life, not merely navigate a holiday.
Save possible homes, test peak-hour routes, message agents, translate administrative conversations, locate clinics and run a real work call away from hotel Wi-Fi. Test the actual neighbourhood, coworking space, road route and island rather than extrapolating from airport or central Bali signal.

Arrival sequence
Configure the two lines deliberately.
Menu names vary. Use the phone manufacturer's current instructions plus the purchased provider's destination setup guide.
- 01
Confirm compatibility and unlock status
Match the exact phone model and market variant. eSIM support does not prove that the device is unlocked or compatible with local voice requirements.
- 02
Install over reliable Wi-Fi
Save the QR code, manual activation details, receipt, terms and support contact offline. Check whether installation starts validity.
- 03
Label the lines
Name them “Home” and “Indonesia data”. Select the travel eSIM for mobile data and disable automatic data switching.
- 04
Follow roaming and APN instructions
Enable data roaming only on the travel line when required. Keep home-line data roaming off unless deliberately needed.
- 05
Complete local registration
Telkomsel's standard eSIM page currently requires Indonesian identity documents for domestic customers or KITAS for foreign residents. Tourist prepaid registration uses a passport and phone IMEI through the official tourist process.
- 06
Test before leaving the gateway
Turn off Wi-Fi at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, load a map and webpage, then check the selected data line. Keep a fallback and do not delete the eSIM unless support confirms it can be reinstalled.
If Indonesia becomes home
Travel data is a bridge. A domestic mobile arrangement is a separate decision.
A resident may become eligible for a domestic eSIM after obtaining KITAS and completing device requirements. Keep the travel profile until the local line and essential accounts work.
Keep the travel eSIM working until the new line has been activated, tested and attached to the accounts that matter. Do not cancel the home number before changing every recovery and verification method tied to it.

Indonesia eSIM questions.
Where an answer depends on a plan, the provider's current product terms take precedence over this overview.
Which is the best eSIM for Indonesia?
There is no supportable winner for every trip. Start with the need for a Indonesia number, then compare the exact local network, high-speed allowance, hotspot rule, validity and support. Use a global eSIM for installation before arrival, or plan a registered local tourist SIM pickup. Do not assume a short-stay tourist can buy every domestic eSIM online.
Do I need a passport for a Indonesia eSIM?
Telkomsel's standard eSIM page currently requires Indonesian identity documents for domestic customers or KITAS for foreign residents. Tourist prepaid registration uses a passport and phone IMEI through the official tourist process. A global data-only travel eSIM follows the seller's identity process instead and may not provide a domestic number.
Should I install my Indonesia eSIM before flying?
Install a global travel eSIM while reliable Wi-Fi and support are available, unless the provider says installation starts validity. A local product may require arrival, identity verification or an in-country network connection. Save the QR code and manual settings offline.
Will a data-only eSIM work for a relocation-scouting trip in Indonesia?
It will support maps, web access, translation and app messaging. An Indonesian number can help with agents, local calls, deliveries and domestic account verification. Data-only travel eSIM service still supports maps, messaging and ride apps. Keep the home number available for account recovery and check whether receiving an SMS while roaming costs anything.
Does an unlimited Indonesia eSIM provide unlimited hotspot use?
Not necessarily. Find the full-speed amount, reduced speed, reset time, traffic-management terms and separate tethering limit. Compare usable high-speed data rather than the word unlimited.
Can one eSIM cover all of Indonesia?
Only where the selected partner network and local conditions provide service. Telkomsel, Indosat and XL are the main national networks. Performance can change sharply between Jakarta, Bali, smaller islands, mountain areas and inter-island routes. Coverage maps are useful predictions, not guarantees inside a specific building or along every route.
