Travel eSIM guides,
country by country.

Independent comparisons for people using a short trip to test a possible life abroad. Each full guide covers local operators, global providers, registration, local-number needs, network testing, setup and the move to a domestic line.

Priority method

Travel demand first. Relocation usefulness alongside it.

The rollout starts with large international-arrival markets, high tourism receipts and destinations with strong demand from the UK, North America, Western Europe and Australasia. It also considers eSIM purchase intent, regional trip patterns and the likelihood that a well-funded traveller is using the visit to assess a move.

This is an editorial rollout order, not a claim that one country is more worthy than another. Arrival and receipt data are used as signals, while each guide is written from current operator and regulator sources.

Research batch 01

Twenty new full guides.

Japan and Thailand were already live and are not counted in this first new batch. The order below reflects the editorial priority method.

01FR

France

France offers a strong local tourist option through Bouygues Telecom and a widely distributed Orange Travel route, while global eSIMs are useful when the trip continues across Europe.

02ES

Spain

Spain now has a fully online Vodafone DataOnly tourist eSIM as well as domestic prepaid eSIMs with Spanish numbers. The right choice depends mainly on whether voice and local verification matter.

03US

United States

The United States has purpose-built visitor eSIMs from T-Mobile and AT&T, so travellers can compare direct-network products with global roaming eSIMs rather than assuming a marketplace is the only digital choice.

Türkiye

Türkiye requires more planning than most destinations. Vodafone sells a passport-registered tourist eSIM in shops, Turkcell supports eSIM, and some international eSIM websites or apps may be inaccessible after arrival.

05IT

Italy

WINDTRE now sells an online Tourist Pass Digital eSIM specifically to foreign visitors, while TIM's ordinary eSIM route is better treated as a domestic option with stronger identity requirements.

06MX

Mexico

Mexico has direct local eSIM choices from Telcel and AT&T Go. Both can provide a Mexican number, but new-line identity linking rules make registration an important part of the purchase.

United Kingdom

The UK market combines direct prepaid eSIMs from flexible domestic providers with many global travel products. giffgaff and Vodafone now both publish no-contract eSIM routes.

08DE

Germany

Germany offers prepaid eSIM through Telekom and Vodafone, but statutory identity verification is part of activation. A passport and a reliable video-identification route matter as much as the data allowance.

09GR

Greece

Greece has domestic prepaid and traveller products, but eSIM availability can differ between the named tariff and the issue channel. Vodafone CU clearly publishes eSIM activation, while COSMOTE's traveller offer should be checked for the exact SIM format.

10AE

United Arab Emirates

The UAE has strong local tourist eSIM routes. du offers a passport-scanned tourist eSIM, while e& sells Visitor Lines and supports eSIM activation through its app, website and outlets.

11AU

Australia

Telstra and Optus both sell prepaid eSIM online, accept an international passport for identity checks, and provide Australian numbers. Coverage beyond major cities should drive the choice.

12CA

Canada

Koodo sells instant prepaid eSIM on the TELUS network, while Rogers has a newcomer route that can reserve a Canadian number before arrival. Canada-specific pricing and regional coverage deserve close comparison.

13PT

Portugal

Portugal has an unusually clear local choice: Vodafone sells a Portugal travel eSIM, while MEO sells domestic prepaid eSIMs online with QR delivery by email.

14AT

Austria

A1 sells an English-language prepaid travel eSIM for Austria. Other domestic prepaid brands may support eSIM, but visitors should verify the exact issue channel and identity process.

15CH

Switzerland

Swisscom and Sunrise both sell online tourist eSIMs with Swiss service. The main comparison is speed, high-speed fair use, calls, identity checks and the amount usable elsewhere in Europe.

16NL

Netherlands

Vodafone and Simyo both publish prepaid eSIM availability. Vodafone provides direct network service, while Simyo uses the KPN network and can offer a lower-friction prepaid alternative.

17HR

Croatia

Hrvatski Telekom sells an online tourist eSIM with several validity choices. It is a strong benchmark against global products because it uses a direct Croatian operator route.

18ID

Indonesia

Indonesia is a case where a global travel eSIM may be simpler for a short visit. Telkomsel's ordinary eSIM rules currently distinguish residents with local identity or KITAS from short-stay tourists, while its tourist prepaid card is a practical physical fallback.

19SG

Singapore

Singapore has exceptionally strong local tourist eSIM competition. Singtel, M1 and StarHub all publish visitor products, with passport verification and important differences between data-only and voice-enabled packages.

20DO

Dominican Republic

Claro supports eSIM, but its public page is a general domestic eSIM route rather than a purpose-built tourist checkout. Short-stay visitors should compare a global eSIM with a shop-issued local line.
