Term life
Pure protection for a defined term is usually the clearest way to replace income, repay debts or fund children's needs. Check level versus decreasing cover, conversion rights, expiry age and whether premiums are guaranteed.

Separate pure death protection from savings, investment, health riders and mortgage cover, then make sure a Thai or international policy works for your residence, beneficiaries and long-term plans.
Thailand essentials
The headings used by insurers are only a starting point. Read the definition, benefit, exclusion and claim condition together.
Pure protection for a defined term is usually the clearest way to replace income, repay debts or fund children's needs. Check level versus decreasing cover, conversion rights, expiry age and whether premiums are guaranteed.
These combine death cover with guarantees or savings. Compare surrender values, guaranteed benefits, non-guaranteed illustrations, currency and total premiums rather than treating maturity value as an investment return.
Premiums fund insurance charges and selected funds. Market risk, fees, changing cost of insurance, top-ups, withdrawals and lapse risk need separate analysis; an illustration is not a guarantee.
A life policy may carry medical reimbursement, hospital cash, disability or critical-illness benefits. A lump-sum diagnosis payment is not the same as comprehensive treatment reimbursement.
Insurers can require a Thai address, acceptable visa, local medical examination, minimum residence, Thai bank account or documents in Thai. Obtain written acceptance for your nationality and intended future country.
Record full identities, relationships and contact details and understand whether proceeds are paid directly or into an estate. Cross-border succession, guardianship and tax advice may be necessary.
A THB policy can mismatch debts or family costs in GBP, USD or another currency. Ask whether premiums and claims can be paid abroad and whether relocation changes cover, tax, service or regulatory rights.
Medical, occupation, travel, smoking, hazardous activity and financial disclosures must be accurate. Suicide exclusions, contestability, missing-person rules and claim documents should be understood before purchase.

Claim preparation
Tell beneficiaries that cover exists and store the policy number and insurer contacts securely.
On death, contact the insurer and request its jurisdiction-specific claim checklist before sending originals.
Obtain certified death registration, medical evidence and identity and relationship documents as required.
Where death occurs abroad, ask about translation, consular certification, police reports and repatriation evidence.
Retain copies of every submission and record delivery and claim-reference details.
If the claim is delayed or rejected, request the contractual reason and follow the insurer and regulator complaint process.
Warning signs
A low premium is not a saving if the contract cannot respond to the loss you intended to insure.
An investment return is discussed without separating insurance charges and non-guaranteed assumptions.
A health rider is described as permanent even though it renews annually or ends before the life policy.
The application uses an incorrect residence or omits future travel and occupation.
The proposed death benefit has no needs calculation.
Beneficiaries abroad are named without checking identity and payment requirements.
A foreign/offshore policy is sold without a clear regulator, complaint route or local-sales authority.
