Thailand before the move

Plan a Thailand
Discovery Tour.

Turn a pre-move visit into a structured test of the place, paperwork and routine you are considering.

Prospective resident researching a Thailand neighbourhood during a discovery tour
Neighbourhood research · weekday conditions

Start with the route

Where you come from changes the preparation.

Passport nationality, country of residence and departure country are different facts. The first complete route is designed for US passport holders travelling from the United States.

Do more than visit

Four tests for a possible life.

Use the country as a prospective resident. Tourist highlights can be included, but they should not consume the evidence-gathering time.

01

Live the weekday

Stay in a neighbourhood you might afford long term. Test its mornings, evenings, noise, heat, pavements, groceries and transport.

02

Price ordinary life

Record rent, deposits, electricity arrangements, food, transport, insurance and the services you would use every month.

03

Test your systems

Try mobile data, card payments, ATM access, hospital routes and a realistic journey between home and work or school.

04

Challenge the move

Look deliberately for deal-breakers. A discovery tour is valuable when it prevents the wrong move as well as when it confirms the right one.

A practical sequence

From exploratory visit to informed decision.

  1. 90–30 days

Check passport, immigration route, travel-health needs and insurance.

  2. 30–15 days

Resolve medication classification, appointments and documents.

  3. Within 3 days

Complete the official Thailand Digital Arrival Card submission.

  4. On the ground

Follow the itinerary, record evidence and repeat ordinary journeys.

  5. After returning

Compare findings with costs, risks and the life you actually want.
