Poor fit for passport-only arrivalsDo not confuse paying for Grab with a foreign card and opening a Thai GrabPay Wallet. Grab's Thai wallet terms require a citizen identification number, so it is not a dependable first-week scan-pay route for a passport-only arrival.
Who it suits
Existing eligible Thai GrabPay Wallet users. Foreign arrivals can still use the Grab app with other payment methods where the app accepts them.
Eligibility
Grab's Thai payment terms say each wallet registration uses one mobile number and one citizen identification number, with facial-recognition eKYC.
Safer setup sequence
Start small and verify the route.

Treat the Wallet feature as separate from the core Grab account.

Payments
The published scope includes payment for Grab services, top-up and other services prescribed by Grab. It is not presented as a universal tourist PromptPay scanner.
Limits and fees
The terms publish a THB 50,000 balance and payment ceiling, plus lower transfer and cash-out thresholds. These figures matter only to an eligible registered wallet user.
