YouApp
QR payments abroad.
Malaysia liveA well-documented new route for visitors to pay Malaysian DuitNow QRs from stablecoins or a debit or credit card. Its published charges are clearer than many competitors', but the non-custodial wallet and Ethereum-only funding route add operational risk.
Where it fits
Non-custodial stablecoin wallet with card top-up
Advertised coverage
DuitNow QR in Malaysia. YouApp's wallet terms say cross-border QR payments are not currently available, so its advertised Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Brazil rollout is not counted as live coverage.
01How it works
Register as an adult user and pass identity verification with a passport, MyKad or Singpass plus a selfie and liveness check. Fund the non-custodial wallet with supported ERC-20 stablecoins on Ethereum mainnet, a DuitNow transfer, or a debit or credit card. The spendable balance is shown in MYRT; scan a DuitNow QR, verify the merchant, amount and fee, then confirm. A licensed payment partner pays the merchant in ringgit.
02Cost to check
The provider publishes a YouApp scan-to-pay fee of up to 1.5% and a card-processing fee of up to 2% of the top-up. Conversion fees may also apply and are shown before confirmation. The current wallet terms state limits of RM20,000 per transaction and RM600,000 per calendar year, although partners may impose lower limits.
03Important limit
Stablecoin funding is Ethereum mainnet only; transfers on another network cannot be recovered. Payments and blockchain transfers cannot be cancelled by YouApp, and scan-to-pay refunds are between the customer and merchant. YouApp does not identify its regulated e-money partner by name in the public wallet terms. Its tourist guide still quotes an older RM120,000 monthly limit, so rely on the limits displayed in the app. Availability depends on verification, screening, third-party services and the exact merchant QR.
Before you rely on it
Check the live route
Complete verification before travelling, confirm that card funding accepts your card and inspect the full top-up plus payment cost. If using crypto, send a small Ethereum-mainnet amount first. Make one low-value DuitNow payment and retain a separate card or cash backup.
